At Match Day, USA's senior medical students receive residency placements in 18 states

Just seconds after Dr. Susan LaDoux rang a little gold bell at 11 a.m. sharp Friday morning, the fate of 74 University of South Alabama senior medical students was determined - that is, if they opened their envelopes at that moment. A few waited to open them, dramatically, often with shaking hands, from the podium onstage.

Along with seniors at medical schools all over the country competing for approximately 24,000 residency positions, the USA College of Medicine students were full of smiles on Match Day, the day they all found out, simultaneously, where they will go for the next step in their medical training.
