Match Day reveals future for medical students

The third Friday in March may seem like any other day to most people. But for medical students in the Boston area and across the nation, it is a crucial moment in their academic lives. It is Match Day, when fourth-year medical students learn where they will go for their hospital residencies.

The National Resident Matching Program uses an algorithm to make a match between students and hospitals, said Geoffrey Young, senior director of student affairs and programs at the Association of American Medical Colleges.
