'The Martian' review: Matt Damon's lost in space; Ridley Scott's found his way

Poor Damon. Less than a year after being stuck on a planet near a giant black hole in Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar," he's abandoned on the red planet in Ridley Scott's "The Martian."

The good news for Damon is that "The Martian" is a much better movie than "Interstellar" and his character, Mark Watney, is a chipper, resourceful Boy Scout who can grow potatoes using his own poop for fertilizer and stitch his own wounds using a needle and thread.
