Low oxygen delayed animals' rise on Earth

A new study has found that the low level of oxygen on earth may have played an important role in stopping the evolution of animals for billion years, delaying rise of animals on Earth.

The researchers claimed that the first organisms in the animal kingdom called metazoans only emerged around 500 million years ago but life flourished on Earth before that without making this jump in complexity. Several debates have been held over the cause of the long delay.
