LOGGERHEAD TURTLES HOME IN ON NESTS MAGNETICALLY

Adult sea turtles use the Earth's magnetic field to return to nest on the same beach they were born on, a researcher believes. PhD candidate Roger Brothers, from the University of North Carolina, said while the phenomenon of animals using a magnetic field to navigate was not uncommon, very few animals used it to find their way home.

It's a sea turtle mystery that has stumped scientists for decades: How does the female sea turtle, which travels across thousands of miles of open ocean each year, still manage to navigate back to the same beach where she hatched to lay her eggs?
