Insufficient evidence exists to recommend for or against screening for oral cancer by primary care physicians, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) concluded.

An extensive review of literature failed to turn up enough evidence for harms or benefits of screening for oral cancer. The lack of evidence extended to proof that an oral screening exam accurately detects oral cancer.
