Lions in Africa Heading for Endangered Species List

From an analysis conducted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service comes a report indicating that African lions are facing extinction and the species may soon cease to exist. The service proposed on Monday to categorize the lions as “threatened” on the Endangered Species Act.

The service issued a statement listing the prime threats to the lions’ as human conflict, less prey availability and habitat loss. The statement further revealed that about 70% of the lion population in Africa were confined to 10 regions within the continent.
