Meet private detective Matt Scudder. You’re going to be seeing more of him. A retired NYPD police detective and AA regular, who occasionally offers his services to “friends” in need, he is a Dirty Harry for a new generation, and yet another avatar of the great Irish actor Liam Neeson. Neeson (“Schindler’s List,” “Rob Roy,” “Batman Begins”) has enjoyed an amazing second act as a middle-aged avenger thanks to his turn in the 2008 smash “Taken” as ex-CIA operative Bryan Mills.
Based on a 1992 novel by Lawrence Block, “A Walk Among the Tombstones” begins with a flashback to 1991 and a scene in which a drunken Detective Scudder, with his trusty Colt .45 semi-automatic, shoots and kills two murderers and wounds a third in the streets of New York City.
