The editorial (“Down on the farm, plenty of sacrifice already,” April 10) fails to mention there are about 8 million acres under irrigation in California, much of which is for alfalfa shipped to China.
The 500,000 acres currently fallowed is just six percent of the total acreage being irrigated. A huge sacrifice? I think not. Jerry Brown’s father and the Feds brought all this land into irrigation in an unsustainable boondoggle that set up huge corporate agri-business entities.
