The TV actor, writer, producer (Black-ish) and — most recently — the "senior black correspondent" of Jon Stewart's The Daily Show on Comedy Central is inheriting the Colbert Report time slot with The Nightly Show, due Jan. 19 (11:30 p.m. ET/PT Mondays through Thursdays), which like Colbert is produced by Stewart.

Wilmore describes Nightly as "a hybrid, if you will, of The Daily Show and Politically Incorrect." The opening act will be scripted, with "my take on events of the day," while the second will be "part panel show that will be maybe comic, maybe provocative, who knows, wherever it goes."
