La Mesa Man dies from West Nile Virus

On Friday, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency confirmed that West Nile virus has killed a 78-year-old La Mesa man who died about two week ago. According to the agency, this is the first case in the last seven years when the West Nile virus, which is a mosquito-borne zoonotic arbovirus, became the reason of a human death.

Health and Human Services Agency has not provided the name of the man. According to the agency, the patient was admitted to a local hospital on October 6 after experiencing symptoms of encephalitis, which is an acute inflammation of the brain.
