Kerry works overtime to avoid another Afghan powder keg

Kabul (CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry extended his stay in Afghanistan on Saturday, as he sought to broker a deal to end an election crisis amid fears the country could descend into bloody chaos.

Kerry met first with presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah in the capital, Kabul, before sitting down with his rival, Ashraf Ghani. The Secretary of State then joined outgoing President Hamid Karzai for talks.
