The US Fish and Wildlife Service has decided to temporarily close Kenai National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) from September 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015. The motive behind the closure is to provide protection to declining population of the Kenai brown bear because of the human-caused mortality of the brown bears.

It is believed that the temporary closing of the facility will provide significant help in conservation of all the wildlife in their natural diversity.
