Federal regulators charged Houston-based KBR on Wednesday with violating whistleblower protection laws in confidentiality agreements. It was the commission's first enforcement against a company for language that could prevent whistleblowing in such an agreement.

KBR, an engineering and construction firm and military contractor, agreed to pay $130,000 in penalties to the SEC and changed confidentiality language.
