Just In: Steward to shut down Quincy Medical Center

Quincy Medical Center will shut down operations by the end of the year, citing two decades of financial hardships that have required massive bailouts from both the city and state.

Steward Health Care Systems, which operates the 196-bed hospital, announced that the facility has been losing nearly $20 million per year because “the overwhelming majority of patients, especially commercial patients, leave Quincy for inpatient care.”
