Jupiter’s Moon Europa shows evidence of icy plate tectonics

A recent geological survey of Europa, Jupiter's icy Moon, has indicated that its dynamic surface has a thin crust of ice above a large sub-surface ocean. This survey has revealed that big slabs of ice are sliding over and under each other within Europa's ice shell. The research team is now proposing that Europa's ice shell has a brittle, mobile, plate-like system above convecting warmer ice.

This finding makes Europa the only known place in the solar system other than the Earth to have a surface shaped by tectonic plates.
