Japan, North Korea both serve own ends with deal

When announcing North Korea’s acceptance of Japan’s request to reopen a probe into the abductions, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Thursday: “Our mission won’t come to an end until the day when the family members of all abductees can embrace their children and loved ones. We’ve been working on this issue with great determination.”

Initially, the two countries were reported to have wrapped up the three-day talks in Stockholm, which ended Wednesday, with just an agreement to continue the intergovernmental talks.
