James Cameron talks risks and rewards of 'Deepsea Challenge' journey to deepest point of the ocean

The 59-year-old director went on a solo 'plunge of faith' in 2012, traveling to Marianas Trench in the Pacific Ocean in an experimental submarine. Cameron spoke to the Daily News about what fueled his desire for the aquatic adventure, which is chronicled in the documentary 'Deepsea Challenge 3D.'

As his experimental submarine plummeted 7 miles down into the depths of the Pacific’s Marianas Trench, James Cameron consoled himself that if the grinding noise he was hearing was anything to worry about, he would already be dead.
