Prickly rocker Jack White issued a statement Thursday insisting he was kidding when he took what sure sounded like a swipe at the Foo Fighters during his concert at Fenway Park. During a four-minute rant from the stage early in Wednesday’s show, White said “most performers don’t use microphones anymore,” adding that most singers “don’t use microphones that have cords.” He specifically mentioned Foo Fighters for employing a second guitarist “playing the same parts” perhaps to conceal any mistakes. (White also mocked RollingStone.com for featuring the likes of the Kardashians and Taylor Swift.)
If it was a joke, the Foo Fighters didn’t get it. The band responded by tweeting a picture of a chimp playing guitar. “Busted....behold, the secret of the Foo Fighters sound,” the tweet said.
