'Into the Woods' ventures off the beaten path

Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods" makes a smooth translation to the big screen in a new adaptation directed by Rob Marshall. Faithful, but not slavishly faithful, to the source, the movie retains most of the songs but streamlines the story, particularly in the second half.
