'Into the Woods' character names get Disney makeover

Certain Into the Woods characters are now named after their Disney counterparts it seems. Playbill has pointed out that on the official website for the Stephen Sondheim adaptation, Cinderella’s Stepmother is listed as Lady Tremaine, Cinderella’s Prince is Prince Charming, and Rapunzel’s Prince is Flynn Rider. The generic names of the musical have been altered so as to match the Disney-specific versions of those characters. Lady Tremaine and Prince Charming are the names of characters Disney’s 1950 Cinderella, while Flynn Rider is the love interest in 2010’s Tangled. In the musical, the princes are brothers. Does that mean the same for Disney’s animated creations?

Some characters have retained their original Broadway names, however. Cinderella’s stepsisters are still Lucinda and Florinda instead of Anastasia and Drizella, and the Rapunzel-stealing Witch is not listed as Mother Gothel.
