An interesting trio for ABC’s ‘Rising Star’: Kesha, Ludacris and Groban join the series

One of ABC’s newest reality series added to the upcoming schedule is “Rising Star,” a new spin on the singing reality-competition genre, this time giving the audience the final say “in real time.” The show follows a group of aspiring singers as they audition in live performances. During the performances, viewers vote via an App in real time to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on, and the performer can see how the voting is going during the performance, so the feedback is immediate and dramatic. Leading the show will be Kesha, Ludacris and Josh Groban, the network made the confirmation earlier today. This singing competition is ABC’s latest jump into singing-contest market. The new trio offers a bold audience to help the show start, but if history has taught us anything, it is keeping fans interested after season one that seems to be the hardest challenge for networks. Ken Warwick (“American Idol”) and Nicolle Yaron (“The Voice”) are executive producing.
