A new study based on fossil discovery in India has revealed that horses and rhinoceroses have a common ancestor. This discovery came from fossils belonging to an ancient ancestor of the group called Perissodactylia.
Palaeontologists have long known that the group of animals known as Perissodactyla, which includes horses and rhinos existed 54.5 million years ago. Now, the researchers have found fossil in India that hints that horses and rhinos belong to the same family, Perissodactyla.
