Indonesia Court Rules in Favor of Police Chief Nominee

JAKARTA, Indonesia—An Indonesian court on Monday ruled in favor of a police chief nominee who had been named as a suspect in a corruption case, leaving President Joko Widodo to decide whether to push ahead with a nomination that could alienate his voter base.

The South Jakarta District Court ruled invalid a decision by Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission to name Budi Gunawan, a three-star general and head of training and education at the National Police, as a suspect in a case of alleged bribery and accumulation of illegal wealth years ago.
