The Ice Bucket Challenge: A Just Cause of America’s Social Media Activism?

A new campaign ‘Ice Bucket challenge’ is in vogue since August 2014. The objective behind this campaign is to raise awareness for the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease and subsequently to raise funds for its research. One can imagine the frenzy of this campaign by a simple fact that by 21st of August, around 2.5 million videos got registered on different social media sites showing people taking their ultimate challenge of pouring ice water on their head. At the same time, donation keeps on flooding in an unprecedented way in the history of philanthropic world. Probably it’s the first blitz style of campaign propagated through social media for a philanthropic cause which brought more than 100 million dollars to ‘the ALS association’, a US based charity for their research purpose.
