The Houston area unemployment rate rose to 4.5 percent in June, up from 4.2 percent in May, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday.
The rate, which is not seasonally adjusted, typically rises in June as students and school employees flood the labor market looking for jobs. It typically dips again in August as students and school employees head back for the new school year.
