The Standard & Poor's/Case Shiller 20-city home price index increased 4.6% compared with a year earlier, according to Tuesday morning's report. That's up from a 4.4% annual rise in December. Previously, price increases had been slowing.
In January, Denver and Miami posted the sharpest annual gains, with prices rising 8.4% and 8.3%, respectively. Fourteen cities reported faster price increases than they did a month earlier, while six posted slowdowns.
