High Fiber Diet May Be Beneficial For Heart Attack Survivors

A diet high in fiber may help heart attack survivors survive longer, according to research conducted at the Harvard School of Public Health. The study, published in the British Medical Journal, collected data on 4,000 U.S. adults who had suffered a first time heart attack.

Those who ate the most fiber had a 25 percent lower chance of dying in the nine years following their heart attack. Increasing fiber intake 10 grams per day was correlated with a 15 percent lower risk of dying over the same period.
