A sheet of ice has been created by the frigid temperatures over the Echo Canyon Reservoir near Pagosa Springs in Colorado. This week, a herd of elk died after falling through ice into a frigid reservoir near Pagosa Springs. According to Matt Robbins from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, there is a possibility that this incident might happened on Sunday night.
They were weighing up to 1,000 pounds each and the ice could not hold up against the almost 10 tons of pressure and collapsed. All the elk drowned and none survived. According to Matt Robbins it is a natural incidence that took place.
