Hand-cut crystal would have been incongruous in a contemporary home five years ago. “Lead crystal” was shorthand for fussy and fusty—the generations-old wedding present gathering dust in a cabinet.
Now, a new generation of designers has discovered its charms, and cut-crystal is showing up in contemporary lighting, furniture and glassware. This year’s collections include designs inspired by punk rock and the streets of New York.
