Harsh Winter Might Have Actually Helped Deer Tick Population This Year

Over the past couple of years, a rare but often fatal tick-borne disease has been on the rise in Massachusetts; and if things keep up it is likely that the virus (or the ticks) could spread even further.

This year, five cases of the Powassan virus have been reported. This virus is transmitted by the black-legged tick (or deer tick), which is also known to cause Lyme disease.
