LONDON, April 14 (Reuters) - The co-founder of Hargreaves Lansdown, Peter Hargreaves, said he would step down from the board with immediate effect on Tuesday, sending shares in the British financial services firm sharply lower.

Hargreaves, who founded the fund supermarket in 1981 with Stephen Lansdown, will continue to work for the company, the firm said, although it gave no further details.
