For GOP Reformers, a Key Vowel

There’s a new creature in the political menagerie: the “reformocon.” Or, as it is sometimes spelled, the “reformicon.” Either way, it’s short for “reform conservative,” labeling reformists who seek to change the Republican Party’s economic policies to be more sympathetic to lower-income Americans.

When Bob Davis wrote about these reform-minded types earlier this month for The Wall Street Journal, he called them “reformicons,” following the spelling used by the author and columnist E.J. Dionne Jr. in a critical assessment that appeared last year in Democracy: A Journal of Ideas.
