'Gold' is magnificent, but story is dull

Helen Mirren plays the imperious Austrian-born Maria Altmann, a member of a distinguished Jewish family, who fled Vienna during WWII at age 21 with her husband Fritz. They eventually settled in Los Angeles, as did her sister. She did her best to block out the savagery of Nazi soldiers who stormed into her family's palatial apartment and confiscated what they wanted.

Maria doesn't look back, but she discovers a letter in her late sister's belongings about recovering five stolen Klimt paintings, all on display in Vienna's Belvedere Gallery.
