‘Glory’ sung with both solemnity and purpose at Oscars

As John Legend and Common performed the song, a recreation of the Edmund Pettus Bridge appeared behind them - the exact location of the historic civil right march that inspired in the song.

A gospel choir formed at either side of the bridge, then crossed it, as Common delivered his rap with a new, declarative assurance. The movement of scores of singers and actors across the stage communicated the power of organized protest.
