Conservationists have warned that the gentle animals face extinction after the giraffe population declined 40 percent in the last 15 years. This is mostly because bush meat hunters and poachers are endangering some species of giraffes.

Conservation scientist and executive director for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Dr. Julian Fennessy calls the phenomenon a silent extinction as the decline of the giraffe population went unobserved.
