Germany expels top U.S. spy

BERLIN — German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government ordered the expulsion Thursday of a top U.S. intelligence official from the country, a government spokesman said.

The move follows two alleged incidents of U.S. spying on Germany that arose in the wake of leaks last year from the National Security Agency. NSA contractor Edward Snowden claimed that Washington even tapped Merkel's phone.
