Georgia joins anti-ISIL coalition

TBILISI, Georgia — Georgia is ready to sign onto the U.S.-led effort to fight Islamic State terrorists, officials here said Sunday, making it the first nation to signal its willingness outside of the “core coalition” the U.S. identified last week at the NATO summit.

Political leaders in this former Soviet satellite, which has become a stalwart U.S. ally after sending troops to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, told visiting Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel that he can rely on Georgia.
