Gateway’s failure to control infection rates means reduced Medicare payments

Failure to control “healthcare-associated infections” has resulted in Gateway medical Center and four other Tennessee Hospitals receiving reduced payments from Medicare. The Affordable Care Act mandates penalties for hospitals that fail to effectively control infections and prevent other harm to patients and also required hospital performance to be publicly reported.

The infection rate and “failure to prevent serious complications” including urinary tract infections were also reported at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital, TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center, TriStar Stonecrest Medical Center and TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center were listed among the 721 hospita...
