"The Gambler" is a good remake of the 1974 classic

There are lot of bigger and shinier packages under the movie Christmas tree, but "The Gambler" doesn't deserve to get lost under there. Most of those packages don't amount to much, anyway, while "The Gambler" is quite a good movie - not exactly Christmassy, not exactly with a feeling of event about it, but definitely something to look for come Dec. 26 and 27.

The film is a remake of the 1974 Karel Reisz movie of the same name, remembered today as the first produced screenplay by James Toback. Toback has been remade before.
