Galapagos Giant Tortoises Have Developed a Taste for Invasive Plants

A new study led by Stephen Blake from Washington University (St. Louis) has found out that Galapagos tortoises no longer prefer native plants, but are more attracted to foreign vegetation.

Together with Fredy Cabrera of the Charles Darwin Foundation in the Galapagos, Blake studied the giant tortoises from Santa Cruz, an island formed by a volcano which is no longer active and extensively populated by humans. The study appeared in the journal Biotropica.
