Fossils of Mesozoic Mammals Discovered in China

The fossils belong to shrew-sized creatures and they show that mammals of Mesozoic era were already highly specialized and well-performing. Among the two rodent-like animals, one was probably a long-clawed tree-dweller and the other one was shovel-pawed tunnel-digger. The study authors noted “We know that modern mammals are spectacularly diverse, but it was unknown whether early mammals managed to diversify in the same way.”
