Flight Lines: Anything can happen during Christmas Bird Count

It was begun in 1900 by a guy named Frank Chapman. The CBC, known as the longest-running citizen science survey in the world, has grown to include more than 2,300 circles (each one is a 15-mile diameter circle) in the Western Hemisphere with tens of thousands of participants conducted over a 21-day window.

Fargo-Moorhead’s count – our 78th – was held on the 20th of December when 40 people headed out into the field and a handful more watched feeders from home.
