Fitch: Stable Outlook for Japan Life on Continuous De-risking

(The following statement was released by the rating agency) TOKYO/HONG KONG, April 08 (Fitch) Fitch Ratings says the Rating Outlook for the Japan life insurance sector is Stable, underpinned by continuous de-risking in investments and improvement of overall underwriting fundamentals. "Japanese life insurers' risk profile is expected to improve further in 2011 due to ongoing reduction of their exposure to domestic equities," says Teruki Morinaga, Director in Fitch's Asia Pacific Insurance team, in a Special Report published today.

Fitch expects Japanese life insurers to strengthen enterprise risk management ahead of new solvency margin regulation based on economic capital, and International Financial Reporting Standard, both of which are likely to be introduced over the medium term.
