A Fish that Saw in Color: Scientists Find Fossil with Preserved Rods and Cones

Scientists have found a fossilized fish so well preserved that the components of its eyeballs are still in place and visible after a scan.

This is the first finding of fossilized photoreceptors from a vertebrae eye. What's interesting is that researchers believe the fish saw the world in color for least 300 million years.
