First sonar images released of 1901 shipwreck in San Francisco Bay

The first sonar images have surfaced of a shipwreck on the waters in the San Francisco Bay that occurred more than 100 years ago and killed nearly 130 people, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials said Wednesday.

The SS City of Rio de Janeiro had entered the Bay near Fort Point on the morning of Feb. 22, 1901, when dense fog caused the steamship to hit jagged rocks and then sink.
