In Hamilton County, children can get a flu shot on the second, fourth and fifth Mondays at the Department of Public Health. The shot is free for children under five, seniors, pregnant women, Aboriginal people, people with compromised immune systems and those who live or work with a high-risk person. Anyone can get flu, including healthy young people.
In a typical flu season, flu complications-including pneumonia-send more than 200,000 people to the hospital. Nationally, flu season lasts from October through May.
