First Biosimilar Drug Approved

FRIDAY, March 6, 2015 (HealthDay News) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first "biosimilar" drug, meaning it is a biologic product that is "highly similar" to an already approved medication.

Clinical studies showed Zarxio (filgrastim-sndz) had "no clinically meaningful" difference in safety and effectiveness from the anti-cancer drug Neupogen that was approved in 1991, the FDA said Friday in a news release.
