First of 10 uterine transplants planned by Cleveland Clinic fails

A uterus transplant, which was the first to be carried out in the United States, has failed. Cleveland Clinic said that the organ has been surgically removed on Tuesday. It was the first of the 10 uterine transplants planned by the clinic under an experiment that aims to enable women without a uterus to become pregnant and have baby.

The transplant on 26-year-old woman was performed on February 24. Eileen Sheil, spokeswoman for the Cleveland Clinic said that the recipient developed a serious complication on Tuesday.
