Fritz Zwicky isn’t exactly a household name, but the late Swiss astronomer — he died in 1974 at age 75 — is the bright star at the end of Sunday’s finale of the earth-defining science series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.

Zwicky specialized in dark matter, supernovas, neutron stars and something called “tired light,” which isn’t what you get from watching too much TV but sounds like it.
